Ponderings – Life’s a Marathon

Do you ever think about how often we ever stop and think? I swear, sometimes it feels like my brain’s sprinting towards a finish line that it’ll never reach. When did everything become so stressful, when did our schedules suddenly fill up and leave us with no time for the things we actually enjoy?

We’re busy, I get it. But remember, like any journey, life’s a marathon, not a sprint. You wouldn’t want to sprint ahead the first minute then burn yourself out, right? So just like in a marathon, it’s OK to slow down, take a break.

I’ll drive my point home with this: the best time to make time for yourself is when you have none.

3 Ways To Make More Time For Yourself

Time seems to be something we’re all chasing after.

It feels like we can never get enough of it. Then finally, once we corner it and catch it, it slips through our fingers once more. Continue reading “3 Ways To Make More Time For Yourself”

We’re busy people. We all have different agendas, and they’re definitely jam-packed everyday. Work, school, family, kids, friends. You name it, it’s on your list somewhere, on all of our to-do lists. Two months into my senior year of high school and I’ve already got a long one, from college visits to applications to thinking about what I want to do as a career (something I keep telling myself I have plenty of time to think about), all the while trying to keep my grades up. I can’t say I didn’t know these days were going to come, but at the same time, I can’t exactly say I’m as prepared as I should be. Yet another thing to worry about, right?

You might be a senior in high school as well. Or maybe those days are well behind you, or they’re still lingering in the future. Whatever the case may be, you’ve got a bunch of things on your list that you’re trying to cross off. Well, not that you need anything else to add, but I’ll give you one more, and this one’s the most important: take some time for yourself. And put it at the top.

With everything we have going on in our lives on a daily basis, we sometimes forget to think about ourselves. We think we have our priorities straight, but as long as we’re not the top one, we really don’t. The importance of taking a break from our deadlines and commitments is a vital component in living a healthier and happier life. The amount of stress that can build up from burying yourself in work and worrying about everything you have to accomplish for the day can be pretty harmful, and I think we’ve all heard of the problems stress can cause.

So for now on, when you start feeling frustrated and stressed out, take a look at your list, and check to make sure you’ve crossed off your top priority: yourself. If you haven’t yet, take a break and do so. Whether it’s reading a book, taking a walk, going for a swim, exercising. Do something that relaxes you and takes your mind off of whatever it is that’s stressing you out. And remember that you should be at the top of your list.
