How To Choose Between Your “Wants” And Your “Musts”

Can you think of one thing that (almost) everyone wants? I can. Success. In every sense, shape, perspective and configuration of the word. Whatever it means to you, it’s something you most likely want.  Continue reading “How To Choose Between Your “Wants” And Your “Musts””

Ever Tried. Ever Failed.

“Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.” – Samuel Beckett

Failure. Such power held in one notion. In one word. A word with the power to send men to their knees, to leave us exposed, feeling worthless and miserable. Continue reading “Ever Tried. Ever Failed.”

Ponderings – Competition

Everyone likes a little competition. But no one likes to lose. Of course, it’s purely circumstantial. Lose to a foul, delinquent group of cheaters that twisted the rules in their favor, then you’ll definitely feel the salt rubbed in your wound. But lose to an honest, admirable team of good sports that simply beat you fair and square? I wouldn’t call that a loss- I’d call that an honor.

Ponderings – Pleasing Everyone

There can be no more futile of an activity to engage oneself in than the fruitless attempt of pleasing everyone. By now it should be abundantly clear that such a goal is a dispiriting and empty one, one which will only ever leave you empty-handed and disappointed. Far better to stay true to yourself at the risk of upsetting a few than to fall in line and watch your tongue as merely another face in the crowd.

Ponderings – Life’s a Marathon

Do you ever think about how often we ever stop and think? I swear, sometimes it feels like my brain’s sprinting towards a finish line that it’ll never reach. When did everything become so stressful, when did our schedules suddenly fill up and leave us with no time for the things we actually enjoy?

We’re busy, I get it. But remember, like any journey, life’s a marathon, not a sprint. You wouldn’t want to sprint ahead the first minute then burn yourself out, right? So just like in a marathon, it’s OK to slow down, take a break.

I’ll drive my point home with this: the best time to make time for yourself is when you have none.

Ponderings – “You Can’t”

To anyone with a goal or a dream, with a clear vision of what they want their life to look like in the future, I’ve got a piece of advice for you that I only recently learned myself: tell someone. Tell your mom, your dad, your siblings, your friends. Tell the whole world.

Then, listen to what they have to say. Your dream’s a big one (of course it is- whoever dreamt small?) so you’ll most likely be met with some opposition. Some naysayers. People will walk right up to you and tell you to your face that you can’t do it.

And to those people I can only give a smile. For every time I’m told that I can’t do something, it reassures me that I can. Every discouragement thrown my way is only used as fuel for the fire within me that cannot be contained.
