The holidays always have a potential to be a busy, hectic time of year, and they usually live up to their potential. Making the Thanksgiving feast, travelling to families’ houses, buying presents, rounding up everyone into a room and trying to make them get along with each other for just one meal. Sort of ironic that what’s supposed to be the best time of the year is usually the most stressful.
And so, with all the stress and confusion that comes with this special time of year, so does our forgetfulness as well. Of the simple things. The things that really matter, that define what the holidays are all about, the reason why we celebrate in the first place. To give thanks. To be surrounded by family and friends. To eat and drink as much as we can, and tell as many stories as we can remember.
The time of year when we can show our appreciation for the people in our lives. To set aside any differences we may have, and be grateful for each others company. So this Thanksgiving, make it a point to say thanks to the special people in your life, the ones who you couldn’t imagine spending the holidays without. Let them know how much you appreciate them. Forget about what happened in the past and be grateful for the time you have now with one another. Life is too short to not let the people you love know how much they mean to you.
This Thanksgiving, don’t just think “Thanks”, say it!
“Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.” – William Arthur Ward
